Who may be suitable
Loose lower dentures
Lower dentures often have less natural grip, and two implants may make a noticeable difference to stability.
Difficulty chewing
Patients who avoid certain foods because their denture moves may find implant support helps.
Enough bone, or bone that can be grafted
A CBCT scan shows whether there is enough bone in the right places.
Reasonably controlled health
Conditions such as diabetes should be well managed; we may coordinate with your physician.

We examine your gums and current denture, and a CBCT scan is taken to plan implant positions.

Plan and options
We discuss overdenture and fixed options, the number of implants, timeline and costs.

Implant placement
Implants are placed under local anaesthesia; your existing denture may be adjusted to wear during healing.

Healing
The implants are given time to bond with the bone, usually a few months.

Attachments and new prosthesis
Attachments are connected and the overdenture or fixed bridge is made, fitted and adjusted.

What affects the cost
The cost of implant-supported dentures depends on assessment of your bone and the option chosen. We give a written estimate after the scan.
Number of implants
Overdentures usually need fewer implants than fixed full-arch teeth.
Bone grafting
Grafting, if needed, is an additional stage.
Type of prosthesis
A removable overdenture and a fixed full-arch bridge differ in materials and laboratory work.
Attachments and components
Implant system, attachments and their replacement parts affect cost.
Scans and temporary teeth
CBCT and any interim denture during healing are part of the estimate.
Maintenance and follow-up
- Remove and clean an overdenture daily, and brush the attachments gently in the mouth.
- Clean around fixed full-arch teeth with interdental brushes or a water flosser every day.
- Expect overdenture attachment inserts to need replacement periodically as they wear.
- Keep regular reviews so the gums, implants and fit can be checked.

What is an overdenture?
An overdenture is a removable denture that clips onto implants or, sometimes, retained tooth roots. It is more stable than a conventional denture but is still taken out for cleaning.
How much do implant-supported dentures cost?
It depends on the number of implants, whether grafting is needed and whether the final teeth are removable or fixed. We give an estimate after examination and a CBCT scan.
Can my existing denture be converted?
Sometimes an existing denture in good condition can be adapted to fit implant attachments. We assess its fit and condition before advising.
How many implants are needed?
A lower overdenture often uses two implants, while upper dentures and fixed options usually need more. The number depends on your bone and the option chosen.
Is it suitable for older patients?
Age alone is not usually a barrier; general health, bone and the ability to clean the prosthesis matter more. We review your medical history before planning.
