What an adult consultation covers

One visit can deal with today's complaint and the bigger picture behind it.

Acute illness

Fever, cough, stomach upsets, body aches, urine infections and similar short-term problems, with examination and a clear plan.

Long-term condition review

Regular follow-up for diabetes, blood pressure, thyroid disease and other conditions that need steady watching rather than one-off treatment.

Medication review

A look at everything you take, including medicines from other doctors and supplements, to check doses, overlaps and side effects.

Preventive check discussion

Which screening tests may make sense for your age, family history and lifestyle, and which ones you may not need.

Making sense of reports

Blood tests, scans or discharge summaries explained in plain language, along with what, if anything, needs to happen next.

When to book a consultation

These are reasons to see a physician soon. For urgent symptoms, see the emergency warning signs below.

Fever beyond two or three days

Especially if it keeps returning, or comes with chills, body ache or a rash.

Tiredness that does not lift

Ongoing fatigue, weight change or poor sleep can have causes worth checking, such as anaemia, thyroid disease or high sugar.

A new or changing symptom

A cough that lingers, a change in appetite or bowel habit, or a pain that keeps coming back.

Abnormal report values

A test done at work, at a lab or during a health package that flagged something outside the range.

Overdue follow-up

If it has been several months since anyone reviewed your sugar, blood pressure or long-term medicines.

How a visit usually goes

  1. 1

    Consultation

You describe what brought you in, in your own words and at your own pace.

  2. 2

    History and examination

Questions about past illness, family history and medicines, followed by a physical examination including pulse, blood pressure and other checks as relevant.

  3. 3

    Tests, if needed

Blood, urine or imaging tests are advised only when they will change the plan, and the reason for each is explained.

  4. 4

    Plan

Treatment, lifestyle advice or a referral, written down so you can follow it at home.

  5. 5

    Follow-up

A date to review results or progress, depending on how you respond and what the tests show.

What to bring

A little preparation makes a first visit far more useful.

  1. All medicines you currently take, in their strips or bottles, including supplements and ayurvedic or homeopathic remedies.
  2. Recent blood reports, scans, ECGs and any hospital discharge summaries, ideally in date order.
  3. Previous prescriptions, especially from other doctors.
  4. A short note of your symptoms: when they began, what makes them better or worse.
  5. Home readings of blood pressure or sugar, if you check them.

Follow-up and monitoring

Ongoing care is planned around you, not around a fixed schedule.

  • Review visits are spaced depending on the condition, its stability and any recent medicine changes.
  • Repeat tests are advised when their results would guide a decision, not as routine.
  • Your readings and reports are tracked across visits so trends are visible, not just single numbers.
  • If a specialist opinion is needed, a referral is made with a summary of your history and reports.

Do not wait for an appointment

Symptoms that need emergency care

Do not wait for a clinic appointment if any of these happen. Go to the nearest emergency department or call 112.

The consultation fee is shared at the clinic when you book or arrive.

  • Tests

Laboratory and imaging charges are separate and depend on what, if anything, is advised.

  • Medicines

Prescribed medicines are bought separately from a pharmacy of your choice.

  • Follow-up visits

How often you return depends on your condition; the clinic will tell you how review visits are charged.

Do I need an appointment, or can I walk in?

Calling ahead is the easiest way to avoid a wait, and the clinic will confirm a time. If you are unwell and unsure whether it can wait, phone the clinic first.

Do you see children?

Physician consultations at the clinic are for adults. For children, a paediatrician is the right first contact.

Can I bring reports from another doctor or hospital?

Will I be asked to do tests at every visit?
