Types of dentures we make

The right denture depends on how many teeth remain, the health of those teeth and gums, and your budget and preferences.

Complete dentures

For a jaw with no remaining teeth. The denture rests on the gums and palate and is held by suction and muscle control.

Cast partial dentures

A thin metal framework with clasps that rest on your natural teeth, often lighter and more stable than an all-acrylic partial.

Flexible partial dentures

Made from a flexible material with gum-coloured clasps, which some patients find more comfortable and less visible. Suitability depends on your teeth.

Acrylic partial dentures

A simpler option, sometimes used as a temporary replacement while healing or before a longer-term plan.

Implant-supported dentures

Where suitable, two or more implants can help hold a denture more firmly, especially in the lower jaw.

How a denture is made

A well-fitting denture is built in several short visits rather than one.

  1. 1

    Examination

We check your gums, remaining teeth and any existing denture, and discuss what has or has not worked for you before.

  2. 2

    Impressions

Preliminary and then detailed impressions record the shape of your gums and palate accurately.

  3. 3

    Bite records

We record how your jaws meet and choose tooth shade, shape and size to suit your face.

  4. 4

    Trial fitting

You try the teeth set in wax so that appearance, speech and bite can be checked and changed before the final denture is made.

  5. 5

    Delivery and adjustments

The finished denture is fitted, and follow-up visits are planned to ease any sore spots as your mouth settles.

Getting used to a new denture

Most people need a few weeks to get used to a new denture. Speaking and eating can feel unfamiliar at first, and small sore spots are common in the early days.

We plan adjustment visits after delivery so these can be eased. Starting with soft foods cut into small pieces and reading aloud at home often help the mouth adapt.

What affects the cost of dentures

Denture cost depends on assessment: the type you need, the materials, and any treatment required before it is made. We share an estimate after examination.

  • Type of denture

Complete, cast partial, flexible and acrylic dentures differ in materials and laboratory work.

  • Number of teeth replaced

A small partial denture involves less work than a full upper and lower set.

  • Teeth and base materials

Different grades of denture teeth and base materials are available and priced differently.

  • Treatment before the denture

Extractions, fillings or gum treatment may be needed first so the denture rests on a healthy mouth.

  • Implant support

Adding implants to hold the denture involves surgery, components and a different type of denture.

Cleaning, care, relines and repairs

Good daily care keeps a denture comfortable and protects your gums and remaining teeth.

  • Remove and rinse the denture after meals, and brush it daily with a soft brush and non-abrasive cleaner.
  • Take dentures out at night, unless advised otherwise, and keep them in water or a cleaning solution so they do not dry out.
  • Clean your gums, tongue and any remaining natural teeth every day.
  • Over time the gums change shape; a reline may be advised to restore the fit rather than replacing the whole denture.
  • If a denture cracks or a tooth comes off, bring it in for repair instead of using household glue.
  • Have the denture and your gums checked periodically, even when nothing feels wrong.

Questions about dentures

Straight answers to what patients ask us most. Still unsure? Just ask.

Have another question?Message us on WhatsApp
What is the cost of false teeth?

It depends on the type of denture, the number of teeth being replaced, the materials and any treatment needed beforehand. After examination we explain the options and give you an estimate for each.

Is a flexible denture better than a cast partial?

Each has advantages. Flexible dentures can be less visible and feel softer, while cast partials are often more rigid and easier to adjust or add to later; the better choice depends on your remaining teeth and gums.

How long does it take to make a denture?

A complete or partial denture usually needs several visits spread over a few weeks for impressions, bite records and a trial fitting. If extractions are needed first, the gums may need time to heal before the final denture is made.

Will my denture hurt at first?

Some sore spots and a feeling of fullness are common in the first few weeks. Adjustment visits are part of the process, and most patients become more comfortable as the mouth settles.

Can I sleep with my dentures in?

In most cases we advise removing dentures at night to let the gums rest and to keep the denture clean. We will tell you if your situation is different, for example right after extractions.
