What is a prosthodontist?
Prosthodontics is one of the recognised dental specialities. After a BDS degree, a prosthodontist completes a three-year postgraduate MDS programme focused on restoring damaged teeth, replacing missing ones, and managing the bite and jaw relationships that make those restorations work.
The training covers crowns and bridges, complete and partial dentures, implant prosthetics, full-mouth rehabilitation and maxillofacial prosthetics, along with the dental materials and laboratory steps behind each.

What is the difference between a dentist and a prosthodontist?
A general dentist provides a wide range of everyday care. A prosthodontist has completed additional postgraduate MDS training focused on restoring and replacing teeth, including complex cases.
Do I need a referral to see a prosthodontist?
No referral is needed; you can book a consultation directly. If you have a referral letter or X-rays from another dentist, please bring them along.
Is seeing a specialist more expensive?
